I am aware that this post may not receive support from some Christians. Since 2011, I have been speaking out against our involvement in Syria and the persecution of Christians. It bothers me that some Christians seem to have no issue with supporting the killing of fellow Christians in Syria and Gaza. It's as if the United States and Israel can do no wrong. If the conflict in Syria and Gaza continues, there may be no Christians left in those areas. My fear is that those who are killing Christians in these areas will have no issue with targeting Christians in America as well.
The conflict in Syria has hit Christian communities hard, and it's time to acknowledge the severity of the situation.
Since 2011 the US government has done nothing to help the plight of Christians in Syria. In fact our government has supported the very rebel who are trying to overthrow the government. These rebels have killed Christians on a daily basis with the support of the American government.
The Index of Persecution of Christians in Countries Worldwide shows that the number of Christians in Syria has drastically reduced from 2.2 million in 2011 to under 400,000 in 2024. Christian leaders and communities in areas where Islamic militants are active face severe challenges and are particularly vulnerable to attacks and kidnappings. In government-controlled areas, authorities are cracking down on those who are seen as a threat to social stability, including converts from Islam to Christianity. It's unacceptable that Christians in Syria are often caught in the crossfire, and those who choose to leave Islam for Christianity are under immense pressure from their families, especially in Sunni regions.
We need to take action and pray fervently for Syrian Christians. Let's ask God to help them remain salt and light in their communities, even in the face of severe hardships and persecution. We also need to pray for believers from Muslim backgrounds, who face opposition and persecution for choosing to follow Jesus. Let's ask the Holy Spirit to empower them and give them strength and courage to stand firm in their faith. It's time to seek the Holy Spirit's intervention and pray for relief and refreshment for Syrian Christians who have endured so much over the last decade.
Extremist groups increasingly target Christians in Syria along with other minorities, and it's time to speak out against such atrocities. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) recently announced it would force Syrian Christians to convert to Islam, remain Christian and pay a tax, or face death. Such actions are unacceptable, and we cannot stand idly by. Let's pray that God will intervene and bring an end to such persecution. Christians who pay the tax also face a ban on renovating and rebuilding churches and monasteries, many of which require urgent repair after being bombed and shelled in the fighting. Moreover, there are restrictions on the public display of crosses, Christian symbols, and the ringing of bells. It's time to demand that Christian rights are respected, and the practice of the Christian faith is allowed without restrictions.
