A short message from the Scriptures.

From the Old and New Testament writers, we have been given a warning from the LORD that judgment is coming on those who fail to obey the LORD.
Christians have forgotten what the LORD did to Israel when they did evil things. This message is from the Lord! I spoke to you again and again, but you refused to listen to me. I called you, but you did not answer. The LORD did not spare his Holy Temple, and He will not save our churches. We have put our trust in lies from the pulpit that Christians will not suffer but will escape the tribulation and persecution coming. We have disregarded the commandments of the LORD. We have chosen only the commandments we want to obey and ignore the rest. Not everyone who says they are a Christian is a faithful follower of the LORD. They serve the LORD in name only, while they worship the gods of this world. They do this to make the LORD angry, but they only hurt themselves. They have disgraced themselves. Because of this, the LORD says He will show His anger against us. He will punish us, and no one will be able to stop it.
The LORD has said that we can do all the religious acts we want, but all He wants is obedience. Time and time again, He has promised if we obey Him, He will bless us. The problem is we have not listened to the LORD. We are not paying attention to Him. We have been stubborn and done what we wanted to do. What is sad is that we have been told to keep the commandments of the LORD, but we have not listened. In His anger, the LORD will punish us. Jesus said, If you love me, you will keep my commandments. The message to the American Christian is what Jerimiah, the prophet delivered to Israel and Judah, obey the LORD.
James, the Apostle, gave us this message. Do you know where your fights and arguments come from? They come from the selfish desires that make war inside you. You want things, but you don’t get them. So you kill and are jealous of others. But you still cannot get what you want. So you argue and fight. You don’t understand what you want because you don’t ask God. Or when you ask, you don’t receive anything, because the reason you ask is wrong. You only want to use it for your pleasure.
You people are not faithful to God! You should know that loving what the world has is the same as hating God. So anyone who wants to be friends with this evil world becomes God’s enemy. Do you think the Scriptures mean nothing? The Scriptures say, “The Spirit God made to live in us wants us only for himself.” But the kindness God shows is more excellent. As the Scripture says, “God is against the proud, but he is kind to the humble.”
So give yourselves to God. Stand against the devil, and he will run away from you. Come near to God, and he will come near to you. You are sinners, so clean sin out of your lives. You are trying to follow God and the world at the same time. Make your thinking pure. Be sad, be sorry, and cry! Change your laughter into crying. Change your joy into sadness. Be humble before the Lord, and he will make you great.
Brothers and sisters, don’t say anything against each other. If you criticize your brother or sister in Christ or judge them, you are criticizing and judging the law they follow. And when you are deciding the law, you are not a follower of the law. You have become a judge. God is the one who gave us the law, and he is the Judge. He is the only one who can save and destroy. So it is not right for you to judge anyone. If you fail to do what you know is right, you are sinning.
The Lord is coming soon. Brothers and sisters, don’t complain against each other. If you don’t stop complaining, you will be judged guilty. And the Judge is ready to come! Brothers and sisters, follow the example of the prophets who spoke for the Lord. They suffered many bad things, but they were patient. And we say that those who accepted their troubles with patience now have God’s blessing. You have heard about Job’s patience. You know that after all his problems, the Lord helped him. This shows that the Lord is full of mercy and is kind.
So prepare your minds for service. With complete self-control, put all your hope in the grace that will be yours when Jesus Christ comes. In the past, you did not understand what you have now, so you did the evil things you wanted to do. But now you are children of God, so you should obey him and not live the way you did before. Be holy in everything you do, just as God is holy. He is the one who chose you. In the Scriptures, God says, “Be holy because I am holy.”
You pray to God and call Him Father, but he will judge everyone the same way—by what they do. So while you are living here on earth, you should live with respect for God. You know that in the past, the way you were living was useless. It was a way of life you learned from those who lived before you. But you were saved from that way of living. You were bought, but not with things that ruin like gold or silver. You were bought with the precious blood of Christ’s death. He was a pure and perfect sacrificial Lamb. Christ was chosen before the world was made, but he was shown to the world these last times. You believe in God through Christ. God is the one who raised him from death and gave honor to him. So your faith and your hope are in God

The Ultimate Christian Prepper

There is a time in our life when we come to the point we realize that we made a mistake. We may have thought we were prepared for every event that could happen in life, and then the one thing we thought would never occur blindsided us. I have for several years been telling people to prepare for what is coming. Many people I have said, you need to prepare, look at me like I am crazy. What bothers me is that so many Christians fail to see the signs of the time. They lack the proper perspective. What they believe is based on inaccurate assumptions that they will not face the coming persecution that will get them killed. I have been praying to the LORD to help me be prepared for what I know is about to happen to faithful believers in the LORD.

Many Christians are counting on a Rapture to take them out of the troubles of this world. This reminds me of the same mentality the French had in World War II. They built a line of concrete fortifications to stop the German tanks. The plan was to stop the Germans and force them to move around the fortification. The fortification was called the Maginot Line, named after the French Minister of War André Maginot. The Germans invaded through the Low Countries in 1940, passing it to the north. The line has since become a metaphor for expensive efforts that offer a false sense of security.

Keep in mind that French military personnel spent years planning the wall. If professionals can make such glaring mistakes, how can we small folk even hope to prepare for disaster or onslaught? The average Christian has placed their faith in the professional prophets who say that the LORD will not allow His people to go through tribulation every day. Have they forgotten Church history?

Some mistakes Christians are making will cause many to lose their faith and even their souls.

One of the worst mistakes Christians are making is thinking about what is written about the end times is in the future. They have relied on the modern-day prophet who keeps saying that tribulation is not for the Church. The LORD will not allow his Bride to be beaten, persecuted, and killed. Tell that to the apostles and prophets of old.

People, the "beginning of sorrow" started several years ago. We are now facing hatred from the world. Satan knows his time is short and is rallying his army of demons and worshippers to destroy everything the LORD holds dear. We are witnessing all over the globe where Christians are dying for the cause of Jesus Christ every day. Churches are being burned, pastors are being arrested for preaching against evil, and Christians are being jailed. This is happening now. The problem is it has not happened to you. So, you put it out of your mind and say the LORD will spare me because I am such a good Christian. In your spiritual arrogance, you believe you are above what is happening to your brothers and sisters in Christ in countries around the world. You are not prepared for what you are about to face.

It could be that you may be one of the rare Christians who sees the coming evil upon the world and is preparing for the hard times. You have a stockpile of food for six months. You have backup water and energy ready for any future emergency. You have covered every possible issue that might arise except for one. You have not prepared for the spiritual battle that you will face in the coming months. You have been so busy with what you know is coming that you have not taken the time to put on the "armor of God." You have failed to protect your heart and mind from being deceived. Your faith has not grown in years. It is weak and unreliable. You have very little knowledge of the Word of God. You struggle with knowing what the truth is. It has been years since you have walked in a new light of the gospel.

There needs to be a revival among the Church.

And to the angel of the Church of the Laodiceans write, 'These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: 15 "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— 18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eyesalve, that you may see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. 22 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." Rev. 3: 14-22

The LORD is not asking us to evangelize. He is not asking us to protest against the forces of evil. He asks us to repent, be tried in the fire, and be zealous for the truth. He is giving to those who overcome what is about to come upon this world a place of high honor. Are you ready to open your eyes and accept the rebuke of the LORD and become an overcomer? Are you prepared to be a child of the day and not of the night?

I Love The Church

During my fifty-three years in the ministry, I have had people come to me and tell me why they left "my church". Sometimes I want to say, "Well, if it's my church, I think that was a very wise decision, and I think I'm going to leave also." (They wouldn't know how to respond to that.) But, they want to explain why they left 'my church'. Most of the time, it is, "You weren't meeting my needs." My question is, have they ever told me precisely what their needs were? No! If everyone in the Church had the same attitude, how are anyone's needs going to be met? That is amazing to me. If individuals reserve the right to have that attitude, they must allow everybody to have that attitude. And if everybody has that attitude, who is going to do all the need-meeting? This is what will work: when people stop sitting in the pew saying, 'They're not meeting my needs and start saying, 'Whose needs can I meet?' Then needs will be met. When the servant spirit flourishes in a congregation, then they minister to each other as unto the Lord."

You hear how some like the minister while others don't care for him. You hear how we need more evangelism, more classes, better sermons, more money, and all kinds of stuff. We need to be hearing in "my church" that God's people.... love the Church! That's right, I love the Church! "Wait a minute, Preacher, we are supposed to love God. We are supposed to love Jesus. We are supposed to love His Word. We are supposed to love our enemies, But the Church? Are you sure?" Did you know Jesus, our Lord, loves the Church? "Husbands love your wives, just as Christ also loved the Church, and gave Himself up for her;" Ephesians 5:25

In a Nashville newspaper, there was a story of a woman who hadn't missed attending Church on 1,040 Sundays although she was in her eighties. The editor commented, "It makes one wonder, what's the matter with Mrs. Craig? Doesn't it ever rain or snow in her town on Sunday? Doesn't she ever have unexpected company? How is it that she never goes anywhere on Saturday night so that she's too tired to attend the worship service the next morning? Doesn't she ever 'beg off' to attend picnics or family reunions or have headaches, colds, nervous spells, or tired feelings? Doesn't she ever oversleep or need time to read her Sunday newspaper? Hasn't she ever become angry at the minister or had her feelings hurt by someone and felt justified in staying home to hear a good sermon on the radio or TV? WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH MRS. CRAIG ANYWAY?

What's the matter with Mrs. Craig? Nothing at all! She loves the Church of the Lord Jesus!

When I was seven years old, I remember a preacher who stopped by our house one evening and fixed a broken window. It changed the direction of my parents--from sinner to saint.

I remember the many Sundays when the families from Church got together for dinner and horseshoes and to talk the "Bible.". My, I loved those people!

I think of a fellow named Granville Rogers from Nocadocious Texas who taught me to preach. Rev. Dauginbaugh, a Wesleyan pastor who taught Bible studies in our community and gave me a desire to know more about God. A tall, skinny man named Edwin Newby taught me the Old Testament and opened up a new understanding of God's Word.

Yes, there's been the other side too. Some who haven't liked me too much, I know that is hard to believe. Some who have hurt me by their actions and their lifestyle! But no one is perfect! Others who have caused the Church harm and directly or indirectly affected my family. However, it is wise to forget those things rather than cling to them. The people of God are good! They are people who are trying to please their Savior! Once in a while, there will be one who will try our patience, one who will misunderstand our motives, some who will seek to harm us, but they are few and far between. I'm glad. The people who have influenced my life the most have always been the people of God! Some great men & women of the faith, others simply Christians, like you and me. Some with PH.D.'s while others were farmers and mill-workers. If there were no eternity heaven or hell (and there is an eternity, heaven and hell), I feel blessed to walk among and be part of the people of God who are the finest men and women on the planet!

We will not always agree, and occasionally, we may find ourselves on different sides of opinions, and we may even exchange tense words. But, you're the family of God. You are one of the reasons why "I love the Church".

The Church exists to bring glory to God and honor to Jesus, the Savior of the body. Our actions individually and corporately are to exalt God, whether in a worship service, a board meeting, at home, or at work.

I once read a story about Puccini (Poo-che-nee); he composed the opera La Boheme and Madame Butterfly. (I do attend Culture at The Creek sometimes.) During his battle with cancer in 1922, he began to write Turandot, which many now consider his best. He worked on the score day and night, despite his friends' advice to rest and save his energy. When his sickness worsened, Puccini said to his students, "If I don't finish Turandot, I want you to finish it." He died in 1924, leaving the work unfinished. Students gathered all that was written of Turandot, studied it in great detail, and then wrote the opera's remainder. The world premiere was performed in the La Scala Opera House in Milan in 1926, conducted by Toscanini, Puccini's favorite student. The opera went beautifully until Toscanini came to the end of the part written by Puccini. He stopped the music, put down the baton, turned to the audience, and announced, "Thus far the master wrote until he died." There was a long pause; no one moved. Then Toscanini picked up the baton, turned to the audience, and, with tears in his eyes, announced, "But his disciples finished his work." The opera closed to thunderous applause and a permanent place in the annals of great works.

It is the business of the Church to finish the work of Jesus Christ our Lord because we love the Master of the Church.

A Life of Non-Compliance

I have been a diabetic for 30 years. A great-grandfather had diabetes. A grandmother had diabetes. Aunts and uncles had diabetes. All my brothers and sisters have diabetes. I have grandchildren that have diabetes. Many of my family are on insulin shots, some as many as four shots a day.  Up until two weeks ago, I was taking three shots each day.  I am on a POD which gives me insulin every five minutes.  I am not against new technology, new medicines, or even experiential drugs. I have taken part in drug trials for diabetes.  I was told the risk and accepted those risks.  I have taken various vaccines over the years.  I have, over time, realized that vaccines do not always work, and sometimes the side effects are worse than the virus or disease.   That being said, I am a little tired of hearing I need to take the COVID vaccine.

Every time I see my doctor, he will ask if I have taken the vaccine.  I will tell him every time NO.  I will not be part of an experiment that has a high death rate.  I know of five people who, after taking the shot, died.  One died within hours of taking the shot.  So, why would I want to gamble my life on a shot that will not protect me from a virus that I have a 99% chance of survival?  I refuse to live my life in the fear of dying.  I already know I am going to die sometime, don't know when but it will happen.  We are not getting out of this world alive.  So, I will not live in fear or be frightened by some propaganda.

The government is using doctors to get consent to take the shot.  I like my doctor, but he does not make my medical choices.  My medical chart has a list of non-compliant recommendations.  Many people will accept what the doctor says based on trust and consent to medical decisions without being informed of all the risks.  Why would you continue to do something that does not work or create a significant health risk?

A few years ago, a group of people had the slogan, "My body, my choice." These individuals pushed their ideology to the point that Federal law was passed to give them the freedom to take the life of the unborn.  Today, I do not have the same right of choice for my body.  The Federal government has spent millions of dollars to get me to take a vaccine that may kill me or destroy my health.  It is not about my health; it is about government control of my health.  The history of the U.S. government using vaccines on people is not one to be trusted.

I find it interesting that the present administration has reversed the Executive Order to reduce the cost of insulin which millions of Americans must have to stay alive. There are 34.2 million Americans—just over 1 in 10—who have diabetes, and 88 million American adults—approximately 1 in 3—have prediabetes.  There are 1.5 million new cases of diabetes in the United States each year. (American Diabetes Association [ADA], 2020)

In 2017, there were 270,702 death certificates with diabetes listed as the underlying or contributing cause of death (crude rate, 83.1 per 100,000 persons).  If the government is concerned about my health, make it more affordable to control and maintain this deadly disease.  Last year the total cost of my insulin with co-pay and insurance was over 16 thousand dollars.  In 2018, the average insulin price per unit in the U.S. was $98.70, compared to $6.94 in Australia, $12.00 in Canada, and $7.52 in the U.K.

More people will die from complications from being a diabetic than the COVID virus.

The total direct and indirect estimated costs of diagnosed diabetes in the United States in 2017 was $327 billion.  Between 2012 and 2017, excess medical costs per person associated with diabetes increased from $8,417 to $9,601 (2017 dollars).  I cannot believe that the government is concerned about my health and safety when they have done nothing to reduce the cost of healthcare for diabetes.

Another concern I have is the number of religious leaders who are telling people to take the shot.  When did they become medical experts?  When asked if they can tell me what is in the "vaccine," they have no idea.  They have taken the message of the government, MSM, and Big Pharma as why you should take the shot and based their recommendation on lies and half-truths.  The Bible warns us about being deceived and those who will deceive us.

When asked if I will take the shot, I say, NO!  If asked why I will tell them.  I have tried to inform people of the dangers and risks they face, but the choice is theirs, and I honor that choice.  I am not a medical doctor but have read and heard many medical doctors and scientists from Big Pharma say not to take the shot. I am taking their advice.  It becomes a matter of who you trust.  I do not trust those who have profited from this virus.  If the "vaccine" works, why all the hype about everyone taking it?  The results should speak for themselves.  Why has the FDA not approved these "vaccines" if they are so safe and efficient?

The bottom line is this; you must decide what to do that is best for you.  If you feel it is vital to your health to take the shot, then that is your choice.  I will honor your choice and not tell you that you made a terrible choice or that you should have done more research or not trusted the government and Big Pharma.  In return, I would hope you honor my choice not to take the shot.  Would you mind not forcing me to do something that I feel is unsafe and may cause my early death? Allow me the right to choose. You had that right; do not take it away from me?

Church Leadership- Where Are The Men?

Reading Time 13 min.

Americans used to pride themselves on their masculinity and masculine impulses. Men were men. When I was growing up, the western cowboy was what every kid wanted to be. That rugged individualist fighting off bandits, Indians and cattle rustlers, used to define our culture. Since the 1960s, there has been a change in men. There were still some red-blooded American males in the late 1970s who were inspired by Clint Eastwood's portrayal of Josey Wales and Dirty Harry.

We once used the titans of the past to inspire us to become a strong nation, masculine, independent men rather than the weak slaves of the state. Thanks to the rise of the New Left, things changed. Great men like MacArthur and Patton are out, and the plant food boys of Antifa are in. That's both because the left canceled our heroes and because the feminist movement led to the feminization of society. People with less than noble motives trashed Titans of history and masculinity itself, destroying our community. A nation needs strong, not weak, men to function. America and the West generally have far too many of the latter and far too few of the former, thanks to what the left and feminists started in the 60s.

Masculinity was kicked out of the workplace, the home, and the Church. The world of cancel culture was in style. I can remember when schoolboys would fight out their difference on the playground. Today they are taught to talk it out, which has resulted in more school shootings than any time in history. Do you remember when guys drove their pick-up truck to school with a rifle in the gun rack?

The heroes of the glorious past are gone. Men like Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett, Robert E. Lee, George Washington, and the 300 Spartans of Thermopylae are being struck from our memory. We are replacing them with celebrities who lead disgusting lives with no real accomplishment or moral code.

And what has that created? A nation of weak men that shy away from pride, accomplishment, and responsibility. They would rather spend their time sitting on the couch playing video games. They live their lives vicariously through sports personalities or movie celebrities. This brings me to what I want to talk about today.

Over the years as a minister, the discussion of women and their role in the Church has sometimes put me at odds with fellow ministers. In some churches, it will look as though Christianity is oppressive to women. But I will contend that women have taken over Christianity. Is this a bad thing? Yes and No. There is a visible lack of men in church attendance. Why? It could be that women have taken over the Church. Let me first say most churches would have closed their doors had it not been for the faithfulness of women in the role of leadership. God has used women from the beginning of the Church. The first messenger of the resurrection was a woman. Jesus commissioned her to tell his disciples he has risen. With that, let me say, I am in agreement with Isaiah the prophet, "As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead you cause you to err and destroy the way of your paths." This is the judgment of God upon a nation where men have failed to be the leaders. The man's leadership role has a significant impact on the well-being of the family and the Church, which, in turn, has a substantial effect on society.

There has been numerous research done as to why men do not attend Church. I find it strange that 5 out of 6 men will call themselves a Christian, but only a small fraction will attend Church. From the small number who attend Church, fewer are willing to be leaders.

Jesus, the Head of the Church, is a man. The twelve Apostles are men. Elders and deacons are men - since they must be "the husband of one wife" (1 Timothy 3:2, 12).

As leaders in the Church, men have a heavy responsibility. Paul told the elders at Ephesus: "Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood" (Acts 20:28).

The world has redefined leadership, and the idea of being a servant or being humble has been given negative connotations. Yet, the biblical perspective of a Christ-like leader as one who serves others and is humble remains imperative. God is the one who chooses his Church, and he is the One who chooses who leads it – and the men who God calls to lead in the family and the Church have the responsibility to respond and submit to equipping for their leadership role (1 Peter 2:9-10; 2 Corinthians 6:16; 2 Thessalonians 1:13-4). Spiritual leadership comes into focus here since it overlaps with the positions of leadership in family and Church. These leaders are not chosen by the will of man but by God. It should also be understood that God keeps all leaders accountable in the roles to which he has called them.

The man's spiritual leadership role is to accomplish God's purpose in the family. These are based on a firm belief that 1 Peter 2:9-10 biblical norms guide the spiritual leadership role of the man found in Scripture.

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light; 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy

There is a significant leadership vacuum in Church and society. Genesis 1-3 holds that man was created first by God, after which he was given work to do, and then God created Eve, and together they were given the command to have dominion over the earth (1:27, 28). However, Genesis 3 shows how Adam fails to be the leader that God designed him to be. He disobeys God's command, and sin enters the world. The opening verses in Genesis 1:27, 28 give mankind a glimpse into what God designed as his perfect order for the relationship between man and woman. In the context of humanity, the male was created first, and subsequently, God made the female from the rib of the man. They were both created in the image of God: they were both equal in value but had distinct roles. The equivalent value of man and woman and their specific roles are keys to the way men and women ought to understand their importance and role in family and Church.

Amidst a lost and broken world, God conforms his people to the image of his Son (Romans 8:28-29). Adam's sin caused his fellowship with God to be broken. As a consequence, his connection with his wife is shattered. When men fail to be the leaders at home and in the Church, there is a broken leadership in the family and the Church. Because Adam fails to be the leader in the family, all humanity is paying for his failure. It was not Eve who failed, but Adam. Eve was deceived. Adam was not; he chose to disobey the LORD. The same is true today. God has appointed the father to be the spiritual leader of the family and in the Church. When men are not the spiritual leader in the family, they will not be spiritual leaders in the Church.

Many within the Church do not understand or know the importance of the order of leadership. Let me use the example of the military.

The type of leadership used by the military was called 'Command and Control' Leadership. It was the style of leadership that worked for centuries. After World War II, command and control leadership was often used extensively in companies where employees expected to spend their entire careers and be rewarded with a pension. Before the internet, employees didn't have as many options to change jobs. Leaving a company searching for greener pastures was less common, as employees valued stability and tenure over flexibility.

This is not true anymore--workers are more comfortable exiting jobs, and more than half of employees are actively looking for a new job. Many workers are happy to be their own boss.

Today's workers don't need to tolerate command and control leadership. Employees who feel micromanaged or strictly scrutinized by their managers feel comfortable jumping ship and finding a new job with more autonomy to do as they please.

At the end of World War II, there was a change in the family structure. Women had spent the last four years working in the war factories providing for the family. They gained new freedom and independence that allowed them to become independent. This changed the whole leadership role of the family. The husband gave authority over to the wife. He gave his spiritual leadership responsibility to the wife.

An elder must hold "fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict" (Titus 1:9). To be a leader, you must first be taught sound doctrine. You cannot know what sound doctrine is if you have not taken the time to learn. Men in the Church will not take the time to learn sound doctrine. They leave that responsibility to the women.

Peter instructs Elders: "Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by constraint but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock" (1 Peter 5:2, 3). Just a side note, women are not lords.

Younger Christians are to submit to their elders: "Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for 'God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble" (1 Peter 5:5).

If men are not the leader they are called to be, then God will use the women to carry out His plan. In doing this, God brings judgment to the nation, as seen in Isaiah.

The account of Deborah and Barak is found in Judges 4 and 5 in the Old Testament. The Israelites had been under the control of the Canaanite king Jabin and the commander of his army, Sisera. The Canaanites had 900 chariots of iron and ruled over Israel for 20 years (Judges 4:2–3).

A prophetess named Deborah judged or made rulings for the people of Israel under a palm tree during that time. One of Deborah's judgments was to instruct Barak to summon 10,000 men and attack Jabin's army. Likely fearful of complying with such a command, Barak told Deborah, "If you go with me, I will go; but if you don't go with me, I won't go" (Judges 4:8). She replied, "Certainly I will go with you. . . . But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman" (verse 9).

Deborah and Barak then gathered 10,000 troops and attacked Sisera and his army. Barak's troops won: "All Sisera's troops fell by the sword; not a man was left" (Judges 4:16). Sisera himself fled to the tent of a Hebrew woman named Jael. She gave him milk to drink and covered him with a blanket in the tent. Then, "Jael . . . picked up a tent peg and a hammer and went quietly to him while he lay fast asleep, exhausted. She drove the peg through his temple into the ground, and he died" (verse 21).

Following this battle, "God subdued Jabin king of Canaan before the Israelites. And the hand of the Israelites pressed harder and harder against Jabin king of Canaan until they destroyed him" (Judges 4:23–24). Deborah's prophecy was fulfilled: Barak won.

  • A woman killed Sisera.
  • The Israelites were freed from their enemies.

Because Barak would not assume his leadership position, God used two women to give victory to Israel.

Since the laity is primarily women, ministers have adapted their message to women. And men and women have different characteristics. Women will try to gain the goodwill or favor of someone; they try to maintain bonds of friendship; they try to avoid conflict—and all these feminine tendencies have affected both the way churches operate and what doctrines are taught. For example, most agree that sin and evil exist, but personalizing sin and evil damages self-esteem. It is not nice to call someone a sinner or to say they are evil. The result is a "believism" rather than a conversion through conviction, repentance, and new creation. The Scriptural plan of salvation is distasteful, so it is not the accepted method in the profession of Christianity.

I find it amazing that twelve men were the core of leadership at the beginning of the Church, appealing to other men to the point that they turned the world upside down in twenty-four months. Has the Scripture changed? Has the message of salvation changed? Has the message of love become an emotional, squishy relationship of touchy-feely.

Why is it then we had command and control leadership there was the highest enlistment for military service and love for our county but not for the Church? Yet, 83% of Americans call themselves Christians. Could it be Christianity has lost this masculine sense of a struggle against the forces of evil? Is it that the message has been watered down to passionate feelings and emotional responses that men find difficult to identify with?

Paul used expressions that appealed to men, his description of evil was in military terms like-- conflict, swords, armor, battles, and warfare. Men outside the Church consider going to Church to be a place for passive wimps and other weak people who need help. That may be the reason military enlistment has been voluntary for the past several years. Men are conquerors and protectors and are supposed to be strong. The Church has changed the message to appeal to women, not men. The warrior class is missing. Sunday School lessons are written primarily by women. Devotional and self-help are written to attract the woman reader.

Christianity has become an emotional religion of the heart. Over the years, the Church's terminology has become feminized. The predominance of feminine emotions or religion of the heart has brought about a subtle change in Christianity to conform more to the desires of the feminine heart. A shift in the emphasis on the emotion from the true evil nature of sin has made it difficult to distinguish from the Christianity of the Gospels. The struggle for inner peace and eradicating corruption has all but disappeared from modern Christianity in favor of a message of universal acceptance that does not require holiness but rather goodness.

Many women who are leaders in the "church" have constructed an image of Jesus as they wished men were: sensitive, always ready to talk about their relationship, loving, kind, and unwilling to show anger. This Jesus is not the Jesus of the Scriptures. This is a perverted view of Jesus, making him a wimp in the eyes of men.

Men who are attracted to the Church will not stay in a feminized church. The Church must develop a proper understanding of the meaning of masculinity and femininity, an understanding that is consistent with a balanced view of Scriptures. Only then will men return to the Church and become the leaders they are called to be. I might add that most women I know in the Church would be happy to have men in leadership roles.

So men, if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, you have accepted a commission to serve in the Army of the Lord. With that commission comes an oath of service to protect the Church against enemies within and without the Church. Those failing to perform the duties of leadership are traitors. Give the women a break, and it's time to step up and be the leader you have been called to be.

There was a time when the Sunday school teachers were men. Boyes and girls were taught separately. Men taught the boys, and women taught the girls.

Titus 2:3-5 The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Ladies, I am not the one that handles telling young girls how to dress and conduct themselves. That is your job. Older women in the faith model and teach the younger women the above curriculum so that "the word of God may not be reviled" (Titus 2:5b). The Greek word blasphemer translated "reviled" in English. Blasphemer is a word that is used to mean "to speak against God so that you cast through or make null and void God's word and His truths." [v] God is jealous of His name and His glory (Exod 34:13-14). This is why it is so imperative that Christian women obey the commands to be self-controlled, pure, kind, submissive to their husbands, etc.

Disobedience to these commands can confuse non-Christians into assuming that Christianity does not change a person's heart and behavior but instead causes them to remain the same or become a worse individual. A woman must also resist the temptation to obey the commands she deems worthy of obedience and then disobeys the ones she considers culturally irrelevant. God's Word is timeless, and it must be respected and obeyed in its full context.

It is my responsibility to teach things which become sound doctrine: that the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. Young men likewise exhort to be sober-minded.

The men of this Church must teach the young men to love their wives and family. You cannot teach what you do not know or practice.

Colossians 3:19 - Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

Ephesians 5:25 - Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the Church, and gave himself for it;

1 Peter 3:7 - Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

Ephesians 5:28 - So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

1 Timothy 5:8 - But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

I do not know if the men of this Church will step up to be the spiritual leaders teaching the Word of God and instructing the young men or if the older women will instruct the young women. If you do not assume the responsibility you are charged with, we will lose another generation of our youth.
