Christian Politics

My father was a strong anti-communist. As a young teenager, I attended anti-communist rallies. I learned from those rallies that communism was the enemy of Christianity. To be a good Christian, you had to be an anti-communist. It was years before I realized that

in America, Christianity is often intertwined with:

  • Political identity
  • Cultural conservatism or progressivism
  • National narratives

Lifestyle choices then become:

  • Tribal signals
  • Markers of loyalty
  • Tests of “real faith”

When politics merges with discipleship, secondary issues can feel salvific. This is a concerning change. Many American Evangelicals seem to have lost sight of the true mission of the Church. Genuine Christians align politically with conservative values and embrace a sense of patriotism toward the nation. It is difficult to reconcile being a true Christian without also showing loyalty to the American ideals of democracy. The true test of faith lies in your support for those who profess to uphold Christian values. However, this mindset can be misguided. Our loyalty should be directed solely towards the LORD Jesus Christ.

We are cautioned that many will be called, but few will answer that call. Ultimately, there will be a remnant.

What Defines the End-Time Remnant?

Throughout Revelation (chapters 2–3), Jesus repeatedly says:

“To him that overcometh…”

The remnant are “overcomers” — not perfect, but persevering in faith despite pressure, deception, and persecution.

When we combine the relevant passages, we find that the qualities of this remnant include:

- Being spiritually watchful

- Being rooted in truth (not easily deceived)

- Being obedient from the heart

- Not compromising with worldly systems

- Being willing to suffer for Christ

- Being sealed by God (as mentioned in Revelation 7)

This remnant is not defined by denomination, nationality, or outward culture, but rather by their faithfulness to Christ in the face of pressure. You will not be saved because of your voting record or your support for political causes, or your patriotism. It is only by the grace of God your will find salvation.
